Paws Up

Paws Up - Animal-Assisted Activities
Stan Fischer and Tiki

Stan Fischer and his yellow Labrador retriever Tiki were recently certified as Stein Hospice’s first Paws Up team.

Do you own a dog, at least 1 year old, that is friendly and likes strangers? Do you want to volunteer your time visiting hospice patients in our inpatient care center, private homes or nursing homes? Is so, please consider joining Paws Up.

“Paws Up is designed to promote the comfort and peace that, sometimes, only a furry four-legged critter can provide,” Executive Director Jan Bucholz said.

What is required:

The dog owner and dog must pass the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test, administered by an AKC approved evaluator. Below is a list of evaluators. The dog owner must also complete Stein Hospice’s 18-hour volunteer training program, LifeCourse™, which is conducted over six weeks. Click here to view class schedule.
