Hospice Volunteers

Volunteers serve a pivotal role in the implementation of hospice care. Stein Hospice volunteer opportunities include:

Patient and Family Support Volunteers – work with patient’s and their families within their residence which could include a nursing facility or assisted living facility. They lend a supporting presence to the patient and family under Stein Hospice care. Some responsibilities may include:

  • Providing companionship for the patient.
  • Relieving the caregivers so that they might be able to maintain a balance in their own lives.
  • Providing transportation or running errands.

Delivery Volunteers – transport much needed medicine and equipment to patients whose caregivers are unable to do so. These services are a vital part of Stein Hospice care.

Bereavement Volunteers – are special listeners who help the family after the death of their loved one. They provide loving, compassionate support to friends and family members. Bereavement volunteers responsibilities may include:

  • Visiting and listening to family members
  • Assisting with social or educational functions
  • Helping with memorial services

Administrative Support Volunteers – work in the office providing support to the administrative staff. Some of their responsibilities may include:

  • Providing clerical support
  • Helping with community service projects
  • Assisting with mailings

Special Project Volunteers – work with the Stein Hospice team on special events such as the annual “Light up a Life” celebration, Memorial Services and fundraisers. Volunteers may bake cookies, assist with landscaping, help at special events, or many other possibilities. If you have a special talent or hobby, and would like to share it with us, we have a place for you!

LifeCourse™ Training

The LifeCourse™ Training assists us to journey through the process of self-awareness of not only death and dying, but living well in the process. It provides important information about end of life, while creating a supportive, nurturing environment that allows us to explore our beliefs, our fears, and our hopes.

The LifeCourse™ Training is open to everyone in the community, regardless of ability or interest in serving as a volunteer.

Spring classes will be held in; Port Clinton at Magruder Hospital, Fremont at Pontifex and in Sandusky at FRMC – South Campus, once a week for six weeks starting March 10th.There is no cost to attend.
