The Choir honors the ancient tradition of women singing at the bedside of people who are struggling, some with living, some with dying. We visit as individuals or in small groups, welcoming families and caregivers to join us in song or to simply listen.
What is required: Women who are able to carry a tune and blend their voice with others. Able to attend choir rehearsals each month and willing to sing at the bedside. Please check back for new rehearsal schedule which will be posted soon.
Description of music:
Most of the music we practice and sing are easy songs that are repeated many times (there is comfort in the familiarity of repetition), or are songs with added harmonies or rounds. The goal in rehearsals is to create the softest, most blended kind of singing. At the bedside we may ask a patient or family member if they have a favorite they would like us to sing—familiar hymns, popular, patriotic, show tunes, etc. are just some types of requests we receive.
